Vox Mark V Mini Guitars 2024-2025

Vox introduced three "mini guitar" models in the period spanning from 2019 through 2024. The first was the SDC-1 Mini. It had a solid body with dual "SG style" cutaways and a single humbucking pickup. Next came the Mark III Mini guitar presented by Vox in January 2021. The Mark III Mini revived the iconic teardrop body shape popularized by Vox in the 1960s. Finally, Vox launched the subject of this page, the Mark V Mini in 2024. It incorporated the Phantom body shape developed and popularized by Vox from 1962 through 1967.
While the Vox Mark V Mini has a ¾ scale length of about 18¾" (476mm), the nut is 1.654" (42mm) wide, making it similar in width to a standard scale guitar. This combination of the short, ¾ scale length and a full width nut makes the transition to playing the Mark V Mini a snap. The 19 fret maple neck is topped with a fretboard made from purpleheart, a long grained hardwood that is grown in Central and South America. Purpleheart is actually harder than rosewood.
The Mark V Mini is strung with heavy gauge (.011-.054) round wound strings, allowing the short scale instrument to be played with the same string tension and E-A-D-G-B-E tuning of a standard scale guitar. Specially designed 18:1 tuner pegs facilitate accurate tuning adjustment.
The teardrop body was made from poplar and offered in black or white finishes.
Two single coil pickups were controlled by a three-way, strat style selector switch plus volume and tone controls. Like Vox guitars from the 1960s, the pickups on the Mark V Mini had white plastic covers with exposed pole pieces. A dual ply (white/black) pick guard followed and enhanced the contours of the body. The chrome plated steel bridge offered adjustment for string height and intonation. A gig bag and wrenches for truss and bridge adjustment were also included.
