"Lt. Rice" - Ponca City OK

Here is a picture submitted by John Holden of his 1960's Vox band, "Lt. Rice" of Ponca City OK. The name came from a Texas Rangers history book and a story about Lt. Jim Rice, a ranger back in the mid 1800's.

Lt. Rice played mostly clubs in Oklahoma and Kansas. They wrote about a third of their material and did cover songs from such bands as Cream, Grand Funk, Mountain, Rush, James Gang, Blue Cheer, Hendrix, Triumph, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and the Beatles.

Lt. Rice members: John Holden, lead vocals and guitar, Chuck Shafer, vocals and bass guitar, and Joe Sroufe, vocals and drums. John Holden played through a Berkeley III head and two Berkeley cabs, Chuck Shaffer played a Vox Apollo bass guitar through a Vox Essex bass amp. Their PA system consisted had a Bogen Mixer run through a Vox Berkeley III Head hooked up to two Vox Grenadier X Cabinets.
