The T-60 Bass Amplifier

The T-60 was one of the earliest guitar or bass amplifiers to be made available to the general public which was totally transistorized. While notable for being the first transistor amplifier, it was also one of the reasons for VOX having a reputation for poor reliability. The single channel T-60 was prone to thermal run away and would often fail when the output transistors could no longer take the high heat being generated.

This failure problem not with standing, Paul McCartney did utilize this amplifier during the early years with The Beatles for stage and studio. Later although, an AC-100 head in combination with the T-60's speaker cabinet was pressed into service. Most photos of Paul utilizing a T-60 set up after early 1963 is most likely an AC-100 head with a T-60 cabinet.
