The Solid State Foundation Bass

By 1967, most of JIM's amplifier models had been converted to solid state versions. The Solid State Foundation being one of these converted amplifiers having previously been badged simply as the Foundation Bass in it's valve incarnation.

The Solid State Foundation featured increased power compared to its predecessor by more than 25 watts, but otherwise was housed in essentially the same cabinetry. The solid state circuitry did allow for this amplifier to be fitted with Tone-X controls as well as MRB as many of the VOX solid state amplifiers of this time period were.

The Solid State Foundation was found in VOX catalogs as late as 1972 and many of these amplifiers were sold in main land Europe - especially Germany and surrounding areas. Later versions of this amplifier were simply called the Foundation Amplifier and the JMI moniker shown in these photos was changed to VSL (Vox Sound Limited) by 1968 or so.
