The AC-30TBR
| Rose-Morris' ownership of the VOX product line came to an end in 1991, when KORG purchased Rose-Morris and the VOX tradename.
The now former Rose-Morris offerings; the AC-30TBR, the AC-30TB and AC-30TRB Vintage Series, the AC-30TB Collector and the AC-30TB Vintage Head and 4x12 Cabinet continued to be sold by KORG through Rose-Morris' UK distributors. KORG USA also purchased a number of these Rose-Morris amplifiers to be sold in the US in an attempt to help liquidate the UK stock. These US imports were specially priced and sold to select dealers in the US. KORG began selling the current line of VOX Amplifiers in 1993. These Rose-Morris models were based off Rose-Morris' 30th Jubilee AC-30TB model. All four of the above stated amplifiers were the same chassis inserted into a cosmetic cabinet with exception of the Vintage Head amplifier which included a Direct Injection (D.I.) output jack for recording. The Rose-Morris amplifiers were a fair likeness both electronically and cosmetically to the former JMI amplifiers of the past with a few exceptions to conform to modern safety regulations. They did suffer from a bad chassis design that sometimes caused the main dual trace circuit board to fail. This was due to a rather large tube shield which while under heat would cause the circuit board to distort and eventually crack. On the plus side, the amplifier did have a solid state full bridge rectified filament heater circuit, but lacked the GZ-34 valve rectifier of current VOX offerings. The amp was cathode biased and could be ordered with some rather large wattage Fane "Blue Dog" knock offs made and painted to look like the original VOX Blue Alnicos of JMI days. |
