According to the late George Harrison, his first "really good" guitar was a 1957 black Duo Jet that he bought as a used instrument he found in the classified section of a Liverpool newspaper in 1961. This guitar was played in both Hamburg and at the Cavern Club in the early days of the Beatles. He kept this guitar long after the Beatles broke up, and it later surfaced on the cover of George's "Cloud Nine" album, released in 1987. In the "Gretsch Book," he states that this is his sentimental favorite Gretsch guitar.
This guitar can be heard on various Beatle recordings, as well.
I feel that the resissue 6128TDS Duo Jet is an absolutely remarkable recreation of that early Beatle guitar. The details are exact, right down to the slimmed down head stock, special body chambering, lighter color back, specially aged bindings, and.rocker bridge.
I suggest you have a look in the "Beatles Gear" book by Andy Babiuk on pages 54 and 55 and you will see photos of Georges original Duo Jet. Compare that picture to the guitar at left, and you will see what an amazing recreation the 6128TDS is to George's original guitar.
